Standard Chargers. FINALLY!

Have you ever had to carry multiple chargers for your mobile phones?
If you have then you would feel as excited as I am to hear this news.

I carry more than one phone with me. Both with different charger heads; meaning I have to carry more than one charger. The worst thing is when I run out of battery and desparately need to charge, nobody has the same charger that I do..

The news is that The European Commission announced that 10 mobile phone producers (Apple, LG, Motorola, NEC, Nokia, Qualcomm, Research in Motion, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, and Texas Instruments), which represent some 90 percent of the mobile phone market in the European Union, have signed a voluntary agreement to use standardized chargers for mobile phones using a micro-USB connector.

verheugen

European Commission Vice-President Günter Verheugen mentions that eventually, phones are expected to be offered without a charger, ULTIMATELY REDUCING WASTE and HASSLE for the END USER. YAAAAAAAY !!!!

Although this decision is proposed for “data-enabled” phones only, and is for the European countries, I’m pleasantly surprised to know that China has also made a Chinese “standard” that all new mobile phones in China must use USB for charging.

ONE BIG STEP FOR THE MOBILE WORLD!
